Quanzhou, a prosperous hub where various cultures gather, is widely known as “the Starting Point of the Maritime Silk Road” and “the City of East Asian Culture”. In designing InterContinental Quanzhou, YANG stands in line with the brand’s integrate-with-local-tradition philosophy while draws inspiration from the maritime silk road. By extracting signature cultures as design elements, such as white porcelain, lacquer painting, stone caving, etc., designers ingeniously have the classic image of Quanzhou imprinted into this New-Chinese style modern hotel.
In the lobby, the roof trusses of ancient southern Fujian residence are abstracted to form an interior pavilion, adding elegance of Chinese style to the space. It not only inherits the essence of architectures in southern Fujian, but also expresses the wish to keep friends to stay. The huge piece of lacquer painting The City of Light, hung on the reception background wall, displays the panorama and active commercial activities in Quanzhou between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries. The eastern and western vertical jade sculptured towers, standing in front of the feature wall at the end of the entryway, are recalling memories of millennia Kaiyuan Temple. They have not only enriched the space, elevated the artistic level, but also displayed the state-of-art craftsmanship of Quanzhou.
Memorizing the prosperity created by the maritime Silk Road, displaying the charm of Quanzhou’s rich cultures, InterContinental Hotel Quanzhou represents YANG’s best interpretation of southern Fujian culture as well as the top city parlor in Quanzhou.
