The hotel is located at the East Street of Chengdu where embraces both profound history and modern vitality. By continuing the sense of the place, the design fuses Chinese cultural essence into the DNA of the Western hotel brand to redefine the Chinese style of travel and living with a quality of “modest luxury”. With the clever combination of Chinese Jade Culture and distinctive Sichuan Opera (which respectively symbolize exquisite life and folk culture), the design expresses both the elite’s and fashion followers’ eclectic and upbeat attitude towards life and work.
Jade, a jewel and also a symbol of gentlemen in Chinese culture, is used as a design clue to lend the space the qualities of gentleness, modesty and reservation. In addition, the most representative local folk art - Sichuan Opera - is borrowed, together with Jade Culture, to express both the urban elite’s and fashion followers’ eclectic and upbeat attitude towards life and work.
Themed by “life is like a play”, the lobby is accented by the huge metal screens behind the front desk, which draw inspiration from theater drapes. Curved lines and cambered surfaces are applied even on hard finishes like marble and metal to echo the traits of jade.
In ADD, red brick walls and old-fashioned buffet floor patterns are reminiscent of the alleys in old districts. Geometric patterns on the ballroom ceiling effectively conceal light sources under a clean surface, and deliver an undulating visual effect which enhances the sense of art. Due to low storey height, the swimming pool ceiling utilizes mirror metal sheets to create a reflection, so as to visually expand the space and make swimmers feel like under the starry sky.
Guest rooms feel as mild as polished jade. With austere colors, pure materials and generous layout, the designer tries to avoid any interruption, instead to foster the serenity, clarity and sense of belonging that travelers desire.
